President Bola Tinubu has instructed for a thorough review of the recently unveiled governing boards of tertiary institutions in Nigeria. This directive comes ahead of the planned inauguration and retreat for the nominees and is aimed at ensuring inclusivity and adherence to the principle of federal character.
The decision was communicated through a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy. The Federal Ministry of Education had earlier announced the nominees for chairmen, Pro-Chancellors, and members of the boards and councils of universities, Polytechnics, and colleges of education, with plans for the inauguration and retreat scheduled for May 31.
However, public feedback highlighted concerns regarding the lack of adequate representation across states, with disparities in the number of nominations received by different regions. In response to these concerns, President Tinubu has called for a complete reassessment of the composition of the governing councils.
