Margaret Atayi, a mother of two who was reported missing last Thursday night, was found dead late on Monday near her parents’ home in Mararaba, Nasarawa State. Reports suggest that she took her own life after struggling with depression stemming from a troubled marriage.

Patrick Atayi, Margaret’s father, confirmed the cause of death and provided insight into the circumstances leading up to the tragic event. He revealed that Margaret had been suffering from depression for some time due to alleged mistreatment by her husband.

“Margaret was a mother of two children. She has been in depression for some time now due to mistreatment by her husband,” Mr. Atayi stated. “She went out on that fateful Friday morning at 3 am without the knowledge of anybody. Her body was discovered in the late hours of Monday, and every available evidence confirmed that she committed suicide.”

Helen Atayi, Margaret’s mother, also confirmed her daughter’s depressive state and the alleged mistreatment she faced in her marriage. Mrs. Atayi mentioned that Margaret had left their home at City College on Abacha Road, Nasarawa State, at 3 am on Thursday, without informing any family members.

The discovery of Margaret’s body has left the community in shock, highlighting the severe impact of domestic abuse and untreated mental health issues. The details of her final hours and the evidence suggesting suicide have not been disclosed, but the family’s statements paint a picture of a woman overwhelmed by her circumstances.

As of the time of this report, the Nasarawa State Police Command has not issued an official statement regarding the incident. The lack of a formal response from the authorities adds to the urgency for greater awareness and intervention in cases of domestic violence and mental health struggles.
