In a statement issued by Lt-Col. Musa Yahaya, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 1 Division Nigerian Army, significant progress has been reported in the ongoing efforts against terrorism in Kaduna State.
Lt-Col. Yahaya detailed a successful operation carried out by troops of the 1 Division Nigerian Army on May 19. Positioned strategically at Udawa, the troops conducted an aggressive fighting patrol along the Udawa-Kurebe road. During this operation, they encountered insurgents and terrorist elements, engaging them with heavy gunfire. This engagement resulted in the elimination of five terrorists and violent extremists.
The operation also led to the recovery of various items from the insurgents, including one pump-action gun, six cartridges, one empty AK-47 rifle magazine, an MP3 radio, a phone battery, two Baofeng radios with chargers, four memory cards, two SIM cards, and four charms.
In a related incident, troops stationed at Sabo Birni in Igabi Local Government Area intercepted a suspected movement of terrorist elements in the Baka general area on the same day. The troops swiftly mobilized and engaged the terrorists in a firefight. Overwhelmed by the superior firepower, the terrorists fled to nearby hills, suffering several gunshot wounds. The troops secured the area and recovered an AK-47 rifle and two motorcycles, with evidence of bloodstains marking the scene of the engagement.
Additionally, troops positioned at Kwaga village in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area made contact with terrorist elements and neutralized two of the criminals during the encounter.
Lt-Col. Yahaya appealed to all law-abiding citizens to report any individuals with gunshot wounds seeking medical attention to the Nigerian Army or the nearest security agency. He also urged the people of Kaduna and Niger States to provide timely and actionable intelligence to the army and other security agencies to facilitate prompt and effective responses.
