The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, warmly received the President of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, during his visit to Nigeria. The welcome ceremony took place at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Thursday.
Representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Minister Wike extended a significant gesture of goodwill by bestowing honorary citizenship of Abuja upon President Faye. This honor was symbolized through the presentation of the key to the city.
In his remarks, Minister Wike highlighted that the symbolic key grants President Faye all the rights and privileges of an Abuja citizen. He emphasized that this gesture is not only a mark of respect but also a testament to the robust friendship and cordial relations between Nigeria and Senegal.
“The key confers on the Senegalese President all the rights and privileges of a citizen. It serves also as a mark of respect for the strong friendship and cordial relationship between Nigeria and Senegal,” said Minister Wike.
The event underscored the deepening ties between the two West African nations. The honorary citizenship is a reflection of Nigeria’s commitment to fostering strong diplomatic relations and mutual respect with its neighbors. This visit by President Faye is expected to further solidify the bonds of cooperation and shared development goals between Nigeria and Senegal.
During his visit, President Faye is scheduled to engage in several high-level meetings and discussions aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation in various sectors, including trade, investment, and cultural exchange. His visit is seen as an opportunity to explore new avenues for collaboration and to reinforce the longstanding partnership between the two countries.
