Vice President Kashim Shettima revealed on Wednesday that President Bola Tinubu’s administration had subsidized the cost of the 2024 Hajj pilgrimage with a whopping N90 billion. Shettima disclosed this during the inauguration of the 2024 National Hajj operation in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State Capital.
Shettima explained that the decision to subsidize the pilgrimage cost stemmed from challenges in announcing the final hajj fare due to fluctuations in foreign exchange rates. He credited President Tinubu for tirelessly working to stabilize the local currency, ultimately resulting in reduced hajj fares. Tinubu’s administration approved the release of N90 billion to alleviate the pilgrimage expenses for this year’s hajj.
In his remarks, Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, emphasized the importance of discipline among Nigerian pilgrims to uphold the positive image of Nigeria during the hajj. He commended the efforts of the Tinubu-led federal government in ensuring the successful organization of the 2024 hajj pilgrimage.
