Former Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele has been granted bail by a Federal High Court in Abuja, with a bail amount set at N300 million. This decision came as Justice Maryann Anenih presided over a case involving allegations of unlawful naira color swap.

The bail application was approved by the judge amidst the case filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against Emefiele, which includes charges of disobedience to the law.

As part of the bail conditions, Justice Anenih ordered two sureties to provide property documents and certificates of occupancy located in the Maitama district of Abuja. Additionally, recent passport photographs were required.

Furthermore, Emefiele was directed to surrender his travel documents and restrict his movements to within Abuja during the trial period.

The judge’s decision to grant bail was influenced by the discretion of the court and the seriousness of the offense, which carries a potential five-year imprisonment term.
