In response to a disappointing season, Manchester United has opted to cancel the club’s traditional end-of-season awards dinner, as reported by The Athletic. This decision comes as the club aims to maintain focus ahead of the upcoming FA Cup final against Manchester City.

Typically held at Old Trafford, the end-of-season dinner serves as a platform to present awards such as the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award and recognition for breakthrough young talent. The event is attended by players from the men’s and women’s teams, academy players, coaching staff, club personnel, supporters, and sponsors.

Manchester United has faced a series of setbacks in the current season, including an early exit from the Champions League group stage and a challenging position in the Premier League standings, currently sitting eighth with fourteen losses. The team is now striving to secure qualification for European competitions.

Despite the disappointments, there remains hope for success as Manchester United prepares to face Manchester City in the FA Cup final later this month.

Originally scheduled for May 20, the end-of-season dinner was slated to precede the final against City on May 25. However, after consultation with manager Erik Ten Hag and the football leadership team, it was decided to forego the event to ensure players remain undistracted in the lead-up to the crucial match.

While players will still receive awards based on voting from peers, coaches, and fans, the traditional awards dinner will not take place this year.
