Pastor Akinade Alamu, chairman of the Oyo State Post Primary Schools Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), revealed that the state government has allocated N250 million as a grant to bolster secondary school activities.
The announcement was made during a two-day training workshop for secondary school principals in various zones of Ibadan, organized by TESCOM in collaboration with the Education Advancement Centre (EAC).
The grant, explained Pastor Alamu, covers the balance of the previous academic session’s third term and the full payment for the first term. It is intended for various purposes such as conducting terminal examinations, procuring teaching aids, managing minor repairs, paying security personnel, and other essential school services.
Emphasizing the importance of prudent utilization, Pastor Alamu urged principals to ensure the funds are used effectively to achieve the intended objectives.
Additionally, he highlighted the state’s commitment to teacher training and retraining, with annual approvals for funds dedicated to this purpose. The ongoing workshop not only targets school principals but also includes training for Science Teachers from all four zones.
Furthermore, Pastor Alamu announced Governor Seyi Makinde’s approval of the full integration of seconded teachers into schools and plans to recruit more teachers in the state. The governor also pledged support for school infrastructure improvement, including fencing all schools within the next three years.
Encouraging instructors to share their newfound knowledge with colleagues, Pastor Alamu expressed confidence that the workshop would enhance their competence and job performance.
He commended Governor Makinde for prioritizing education and thanked him for his commitment to improving educational standards in Oyo State.
In conclusion, Pastor Alamu urged secondary school principals to continue supporting education initiatives through ANCOPPS, ensuring sustained progress in the state’s education sector.
