The Federal Government has confirmed that the Kano-Daura rail project is on track for completion by 2025, according to Minister of Transportation, Said Alkali.

Speaking to NAN in Abuja on Friday, Minister Alkali reiterated the project’s priority status for the ministry and assured that it is progressing according to schedule.

The Kano-Daura rail project aims to streamline the transportation of raw materials and passengers across long distances, with the overarching goal of fostering regional development.

Alkali provided insights into the project timeline, indicating that the Kano-Daura segment is set for completion by 2025, followed by the Daura-Maradi and Dutse-Kano segments in 2026.

In a related development, Alkali announced the imminent commencement of freight services on the Lagos-Kano narrow gauge project, scheduled for June. This initiative is poised to bolster the nation’s GDP and alleviate pressure on highways, leading to a reduction in traffic accidents and the preservation of road infrastructure.

The minister lauded the efforts of the contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), for their commendable progress on the project. He noted substantial advancements since his previous inspection, underscoring the positive momentum of the project.

The Kano-Maradi standard gauge railway line, inaugurated by the previous administration, spans approximately 387 km, connecting vital trade hubs in Northern Nigeria and the Republic of Niger.
