Renowned political economist, Prof. Pat Utomi, asserts that his initiative to establish a mega political party with like-minded individuals and political factions for the forthcoming 2027 general elections is progressing as planned.
Having returned to Nigeria from an extended stay in the US, Utomi conveyed to the News Agency of Nigeria his conviction that neither the ruling All Progressives Congress nor any opposition party could salvage the nation.
He criticized the current political landscape, deeming existing parties as failures in fostering national development.
Utomi elucidated that the envisioned mega party aims to disrupt the prevailing political order and usher in the transformative leadership essential for Nigeria’s advancement.
“It is precisely the reason I arrived in Nigeria yesterday to continue that work,” he affirmed.
Asserting that Nigeria’s political parties have utterly failed, Utomi emphasized the need for a paradigm shift.
He highlighted the pervasive parochial culture that eclipses civic values, asserting the imperative of birthing a new political ethos founded on integrity, work ethic, and respect for human dignity.
To advance the mega-party formation, Utomi outlined plans to convene meetings in Lagos and Abuja, culminating in a press conference.
He outlined two key cohorts expected to converge: the “mea culpa” group comprising repentant politicians acknowledging past missteps, and the “new value” cohort committed to transformative change.
Utomi disclosed engagements with opposition leaders, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, aiming to unite disparate political forces under a new banner. He underscored the inclusion of elder statesmen in the coalition-building efforts.
