The Minister of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, has underscored the importance of recognizing and supporting art in health initiatives, emphasizing its profound impact on physical, emotional, and mental well-being.

Speaking at the virtual inauguration of the National Arts in Health Week 2024, held in Lagos, Ms. Musawa highlighted the transformative power of the arts in fostering community well-being. She emphasized that art, including painting, drawing, sculpting, and other creative modalities, provides individuals with a therapeutic outlet to explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences in a safe and supportive environment.

Ms. Musawa stated, “Art therapy empowers individuals to externalize internal struggles, gain insight into their inner world, and cultivate resilience in the face of adversity.” She highlighted the role of art as a powerful medium for communication and expression, particularly for those who may find it challenging to articulate their feelings verbally.

Reaffirming the ministry’s commitment to championing the transformative power of art in health and therapy, the minister called upon Nigerians to collaborate with the government in harnessing the boundless potential of the arts to inspire hope, foster creativity, and build a brighter and more compassionate future for all.
