Renowned Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe has shed light on a prevalent trend within the Nigerian movie industry, revealing that social media following often outweighs talent when it comes to casting decisions.
Arukwe disclosed that there was a time when filmmakers prioritized actors with substantial social media followings, rather than assessing their acting abilities. This practice posed a significant challenge for him during his early days as an aspiring actor.
Reflecting on his experiences, the ‘A Tribe Called Judah’ star expressed frustration at the emphasis placed on Instagram and Twitter metrics by some producers. Despite acknowledging the success of actors who possess both talent and a large online following, Arukwe stressed the importance of prioritizing acting skills over social media popularity when selecting actors for roles.
