Renowned music star Yemi Alade has voiced concerns over the recent wave of demolitions in Lagos, expressing dismay over the displacement of residents and the erosion of real estate value in the country’s commercial capital.

In a passionate video release on social media, Alade highlighted the plight of people waking up to find themselves homeless overnight due to the demolitions. She lamented the loss of trust among Nigerians in the government and the impact on their aspirations for creating generational wealth through property ownership.

“People are sleeping in their houses, waking up the next day homeless,” Alade exclaimed. “You are ruining the real estate value of the country, ruining the real estate value of Lagos, making people lose trust not only just in the idea of Nigeria, but lose hope entirely in the little coins they save to make their life worthwhile, to create some kind of generational wealth.”

The music star questioned the rationale behind the demolitions and called for a reevaluation of the methods employed in urban development projects in Lagos State. She emphasized the need for a more compassionate and sustainable approach that prioritizes the welfare of residents and safeguards their rights.

“How is this okay? And why, why? Does it make sense?” Alade pondered. “Oh my God, multi-million dollar housing. Look, there is a better way to do things in Lagos State.”
