Professor Abdullahi Liman Tukur, the Vice Chancellor of Modibbo Adama University (MAU) in Yola, has provided clarification regarding the dismissal of three academic personnel from the institution. Speaking at a pre-convocation news briefing held today to mark the University’s 28th convocation ceremony for the 2022/2023 academic session, scheduled for Saturday, May 4, 2024, Prof. Tukur revealed that the terminated professors were found guilty of various offenses, including plagiarism and other forms of misconduct.

The decision to sack the academics followed an investigation conducted by an internal panel set up by the University council. Prof. Tukur emphasized that stringent measures await any staff or student found violating the rules and regulations governing the institution.

Highlighting the achievements of the university, Prof. Tukur announced that a total of 5,545 students would be awarded certificates during the convocation ceremony. Among them, 4,282 students will receive Bachelor’s degrees, while 458 will be awarded diploma certificates. Notably, 53 students will graduate with first-class degrees, demonstrating the academic excellence fostered by MAU.

Furthermore, the convocation will see the conferral of postgraduate diplomas to 41 students, master’s degrees to 630 students, and Ph.D. credentials to 134 students across various disciplines. However, Prof. Tukur also revealed that this year’s convocation ceremony marks the conclusion of his tenure as Vice Chancellor, urging the federal government to reconsider the Treasury Single Account (TSA) policy, which he views as a significant challenge to the operations of public universities nationwide.
