Scores of protesters mobilized by former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, to demonstrate against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) were dispersed by operatives of the Nigerian Police Force on Monday. A viral video captured the chaotic scene in Abuja, the nation’s capital, as protesters fled from police arrest.

The demonstrators had gathered at the EFCC headquarters, demanding the commission to adhere to a court order preventing further arrest of the former governor. The protest follows recent developments concerning Bello, including the American International School in Abuja’s decision to return an advance payment of $760,000 for school fees made by Bello for his children.

Abuja City Journal previously reported on the matter, highlighting the school’s cooperation with the EFCC in addressing the issue. The Head of School, Greg Hughes, confirmed in a statement that the school accepted the payment, which was duly documented, but subsequently returned the funds to the EFCC in compliance with investigative requests.
