The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) in Osun has issued a stern warning to petroleum marketers regarding the hoarding of fuel amidst the ongoing scarcity. Adekunle Adeyemo, the coordinator of NMDPRA in Osun, emphasized the agency’s stance against panic buying and storing petroleum products at home during a briefing with journalists in Osogbo on Monday.
Adeyemo reiterated that the agency’s surveillance team would be vigilant to ensure that filling stations do not engage in hoarding practices. He emphasized that any marketers found hoarding fuel or participating in any form of sharp practices would face legal consequences.
Furthermore, Adeyemo assured that the agency would intensify its monitoring and surveillance activities to ensure compliance with quality, quantity, and safety standards in petroleum operations. He urged petroleum marketers to strictly adhere to standard safety practices at their filling stations, emphasizing that violations would be met with legal action.
Adeyemo also called on consumers to report any instances of sharp practices, such as under-dispensing, to the agency for appropriate action. Additionally, he cautioned against storing petroleum products at home, citing the risk of fire outbreaks and the need for careful handling of such products.
