Chairman of Victoria Garden City Found Dead in His Car in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of a prominent figure, 42-year-old Gihan Mbelu, purportedly the chairman of Victoria Garden City in the Lekki area of the state. According to reports by Deji Lambo, Mbelu, a financial adviser and venture capitalist, was discovered unconscious in his C300 4Matic car around 10:10 am on Friday, April 26, 2024, near VGC.

 

“It was gathered that people decided to inspect his vehicle which had been running for hours at the spot where it was parked,” the report read. “Concerned by the discovery, some of the people in the area, upon close observation of the vehicle, found Mbelu in it. While some people speculated that the 42-year-old man might be sleeping, some other persons, who were bent on ascertaining Mbelu’s true state, reportedly made frantic efforts to wake him up but it proved abortive.”

 

“He was rushed to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital where he was confirmed dead by a doctor on duty,” the report continued. “In a bid to rescue Mbelu, it was learnt that he was rushed to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital where he was reportedly confirmed dead by one of the doctors on duty. Mbelu’s corpse was said to have been deposited in the hospital’s morgue. The case was also reported to the police for an investigation to commence to ascertain the circumstances surrounding Mbelu’s death.”

 

The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with many expressing disbelief and sorrow at Mbelu’s sudden passing. Until his death, Mbelu was known as a respected figure in Victoria Garden City and beyond, admired for his contributions to the community and his successful career in finance and investment.

 

“He was a well-respected member of our community, and his loss will be deeply felt by all who knew him,” said a close acquaintance who preferred to remain anonymous. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.”

 

Mbelu leaves behind his wife Eloho, a tech entrepreneur, former investment banker, and private equity investor, as well as their two daughters. The spokesperson for the state police command, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident on Saturday, April 27, stating that an investigation has commenced.

 

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss and will do everything in our power to uncover the truth behind Mbelu’s death,” said Hundeyin. “Our condolences go out to his family, friends, and the entire community during this difficult time.”
