FG Suspends Dana Air Operations Amid Safety Concerns

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has issued a directive to the Acting Director-General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Chris Najomo, mandating the suspension of Dana Airline’s operations pending a comprehensive audit.

Following an incident involving a Dana Airline McDonnell Douglas MD-82 aircraft at the domestic wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, the runway was closed down, prompting the regulatory action.

In an official communication dated April 24, 2024, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, outlined concerns regarding the recent incidents involving Dana Airline. These incidents have raised substantial doubts regarding both the safety and financial viability of the airline’s operations.

The Minister emphasized the necessity for an audit covering safety protocols, maintenance procedures, and financial health to ensure compliance with aviation regulations.

In the letter, the Minister stressed the paramount importance of passenger safety and directed the immediate suspension of Dana Airline’s fleet until the audit is completed.

Acknowledging the urgency of the situation, the Minister urged prompt and thorough action to safeguard the interests of all stakeholders and requested regular updates on the audit progress and significant findings.
