Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, Chairman of the Senate Ad-hoc Committee on Turnaround Maintenance of Nigerian Refineries, has provided assurance that the nation’s refineries will be operational before the conclusion of 2024.
Speaking during the committee’s visit to Delta State Governor, Hon Sheriff Oborevwori in Asaba, Senator Ubah reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to closely monitoring the refinery management to ensure proper execution.
Expressing confidence in the refineries’ revival, Senator Ubah attributed his optimism to his background and emphasized the effectiveness of President’s “Renewed Hope” initiative.
Regarding oil theft, Senator Ubah outlined plans to conduct public hearings, starting with Rivers State, to address the issue comprehensively. He emphasized the importance of engaging with local communities to understand and resolve underlying challenges.
Turning to the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), Senator Ubah acknowledged implementation challenges but pledged the committee’s dedication to ensuring the Act’s effectiveness.
Recognizing the complexity of the task, Senator Ubah assured that progress would be visible in due course, acknowledging the cultural and societal factors influencing the process.
