Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has called on the federal government to extend the student loan scheme to encompass students of private universities, urging for swift action in its implementation.

The appeal was made during the inauguration ceremony of the Asiwaju Onafowokan, Coleman Wires and Cables building, held at Bells University’s College of Postgraduate Studies in Ota.

In his address at the event, Obasanjo, alongside the university’s vice chancellor, emphasized the importance of widening access to educational financing, urging government authorities to ensure the participation of private university students in the loan programme.

Expressing reservations about the government’s capacity to execute the scheme transparently, the former President underscored the need for thorough oversight and accountability in its implementation.
