NIPCO Gas, a leading player in the energy industry, has called for the widespread adoption of Auto Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to promote a more environmentally friendly and sustainable future in Nigeria.
Nagendra Verma, Managing Director of NIPCO Gas Limited, emphasized this during the ceremony where the company was honored with the Most Innovative Gas Company of the Year Award by Energy Times. Verma reiterated NIPCO Gas’s commitment to driving positive transformation in the energy sector through substantial investments in infrastructure development for viable energy alternatives.
Verma highlighted the recent partnership between NNPC Ltd. and NIPCO Gas Ltd., aimed at establishing CNG stations nationwide. This initiative seeks to enhance Nigeria’s CNG framework, increase CNG availability, and facilitate the transition to a more affordable and eco-friendly fuel alternative for various vehicles. Under this partnership, NIPCO Gas has committed to constructing 35 CNG Stations initially across states in Nigeria.
Currently, NIPCO Gas Limited operates 16 CNG outlets and has successfully converted over 8,000 vehicles to CNG, showcasing its expertise and experience in supporting the government’s efforts to make fuel more economical and beneficial to the national economy.
Verma expressed gratitude for the award, recognizing NIPCO Gas’s contributions to the gas sector, particularly marked by the launch of its inaugural CNG station in Benin City, Edo State, in 2009. He emphasized the company’s unwavering commitment to expanding the country’s gas infrastructure and its dedication to deepening gas utilization as an alternative automotive fuel.
Yakubu Lawal, Chairman of the Editorial Board of Energy Times, explained that the award aims to appreciate individuals and companies whose work has positively impacted the nation’s development. He praised NIPCO Gas for its pioneering role in the Auto CNG sector, noting its excellent performance and partnership with NNPC and the federal government to grow gas infrastructure and provide access to gas as an auto fuel.
The recognition of NIPCO Gas’s expertise underscores its significant contribution to the nation’s efforts to harness abundant gas resources as an alternative to petrol, Lawal added.
