Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohaneye, visited the Lead British International School, Abuja in response to the circulating bullying videos online. Accompanied by ministry officials, she addressed the concerning issue firsthand. Additionally, one of the female bullies seen in the footage was brought to the school by two elderly women.
The videos, depicting students assaulting their peers, caused widespread outrage after surfacing on social media platforms on Monday. In one clip, four female students were observed hitting another girl repeatedly while questioning her about a male individual.
Responding to the incident, the school’s management released a statement affirming their commitment to investigating the matter thoroughly. Headed by Abraham Ogunkanmbi, the school initiated an inquiry, reviewing video evidence and conducting interviews with witnesses to ascertain the incident’s root causes.
Furthermore, the school reached out to both the victims and perpetrators’ families, offering counseling and appropriate disciplinary measures. Emphasizing their dedication to providing a secure learning environment, the school expressed deep concern over the bullying incident and assured the community of its seriousness in addressing the issue.
As part of their response, the school announced plans to implement educational programs and workshops aimed at raising awareness about bullying and its repercussions among students, staff, and parents. Additionally, they urged social media users to refrain from sharing the video clips further, emphasizing the importance of sensitivity and respect for the privacy and dignity of those involved.
