In response to allegations of N80.2 billion fraud against former Kogi State Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the State House of Assembly has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to uphold the rule of law and operate within legal boundaries.

During Tuesday’s plenary session, the Assembly passed resolutions demanding the removal of the ‘WANTED’ tag associated with Bello’s name and urged the EFCC to refrain from using its powers for political vendettas or intimidation.

The lawmakers emphasized the importance of respecting due legal process and cautioned against allowing the EFCC to be manipulated for personal agendas or smear campaigns.

Representative Jibril Onoru-Oiza Abu, speaking on behalf of Ajaokuta State Constituency, highlighted the detrimental impact of the EFCC’s actions on public perception and urged a halt to what he described as a trend of witch-hunting political figures.

He underscored the need for the EFCC to adhere to its objectives of fighting financial crimes with diligence and legal rigor, cautioning against allowing the commission to deviate from its statutory responsibilities.
