Iran Condemns Planned EU Sanctions as ‘Unlawful’

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Hussein Amirabdollahian, has denounced the proposed sanctions by the European Union (EU) in response to the recent drone and missile attack on Israel.

In a statement posted on his official account on X, Amirabdollahian criticized the planned sanctions as “unlawful” and expressed regret over the EU’s decision.

He defended Iran’s actions, stating that the attack on Israel was an exercise of Iran’s right to self-defense. Amirabdollahian also called for sanctions to be imposed against Israel in response to its actions.

The EU’s foreign ministers, meeting in Luxembourg, instructed EU chief diplomat Josep Borrell to draft concrete proposals for sanctions targeting individuals, organizations, and companies involved in the production and delivery of drones and missiles to Iran’s allies in the Middle East.

The decision comes after Iran launched a direct missile attack on Israel, following a suspected Israeli attack on the Iranian embassy in Damascus earlier in the month. The attack resulted in casualties, including two IRGC generals.

In retaliation, Israel reportedly carried out a strike on an air base in the province of Isfahan. The escalation of tensions between Iran and Israel has raised concerns about further destabilization in the region.
