A tragic incident unfolded in Yar’Gwanda, Tsanyawa LGA, Kano, claiming the lives of a 60-year-old man named Danjuma, his son Ibrahim aged 35, and Aminu Gaye, also 35, as they attempted to retrieve a phone from a pit latrine.
The distressing event occurred on a Sunday morning, with the only survivor being 28-year-old Abba Alasan, who was successfully rescued from the perilous situation.
According to Saminu Abdullahi, the spokesperson for the Kano State Fire Service, they received an urgent call from Tsanyawa Fire Station reporting the entrapment of four individuals inside a pit toilet. Danjuma had initially fallen into the pit while attempting to retrieve the phone, prompting his son Ibrahim to enter and rescue him. Tragically, both became trapped, leading to further attempts at rescue by Gaye and Alasan, all of whom succumbed to the dire circumstances.
Abdullahi added that while the first three victims were rescued in an unconscious state, Alasan was successfully retrieved alive. However, despite efforts to save them, doctors at Bichi Special Hospital confirmed the deaths of Danjuma, Ibrahim, and Gaye, leaving Alasan as the sole survivor of the harrowing ordeal.
