Singer Ric Hassani recently voiced his thoughts on the state of the Afrobeats genre during an appearance on the Channels TV program, Rubbin’ Minds with Ebuka.

Expressing concern, Hassani observed a significant decline in the quality of Afrobeats music over the years. He contrasted the present hit songs unfavorably with those from previous eras, noting a stark difference in musical standards.

According to Hassani, while past hit songs were synonymous with serious musical compositions, the current landscape sees a proliferation of what he deems as subpar music. He attributed this decline to the influx of newcomers into the industry, suggesting that the quest for widespread popularity has compromised artistic integrity.

In his assessment, Hassani emphasized that the Nigerian music scene, dominated by Afrobeats, has witnessed a noticeable drop in quality due to a surge in participation. He lamented the indiscriminate release of music, suggesting that the pursuit of commercial success has overshadowed artistic merit.

Hassani’s critique sheds light on the evolving dynamics of the Nigerian music industry, sparking conversations about the balance between commercial appeal and artistic excellence.
