The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), FCT Command, has successfully intercepted and rescued 10 victims of human trafficking at Zuba motor park in Abuja.
In a statement by NSCDC FCT Command spokesperson, Samuel Idoko, it was revealed that the rescued victims, aged between 24 and 34, consisted of one male and nine females, all claiming to be natives of Ondo State.
Upon interrogation, it was discovered that the victims were being lured into illegal migration abroad. They had reportedly paid N80,000 each to facilitate the procurement of international passports, as directed by their sponsor.
The victims confessed to being promised opportunities for migration abroad, purportedly for ready-made jobs in North Africa and Canada, by an unidentified sponsor based in Okitipupa, Ondo State.
Following their rescue, the victims were promptly handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) by NSCDC Commandant, Olusola Odumosu.
Commandant Odumosu cautioned against falling prey to deceptive promises of a better future abroad, emphasizing the risks associated with illegal migration and trafficking. He urged individuals to utilize legitimate channels for international travel to avoid being exploited or subjected to exploitative conditions abroad.
