According to a statement from the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in Borno, two individuals identified as Abubakar Mohammed and Bana Modu, believed to be experts in crafting improvised explosive devices (IEDs), voluntarily surrendered to troops.
Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, the military spokesperson, revealed in Maiduguri on Monday that the suspects, both under the age of 30, surrendered during a clearance operation conducted by the troops on Sunday.
Abdullahi further disclosed that the surrendered individuals were found in possession of two IEDs, two mobile phones, and a sum of N53,000 in cash.
He emphasized the MNJTF’s commitment to encouraging other terrorists in the Lake Chad region to surrender and lay down their arms, underscoring the ongoing efforts to promote peace and security in the area.
Assuring continued operations to eradicate terrorism in the region, Abdullahi reiterated the troops’ dedication to ensuring sustainable peace in the affected areas.
