The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) disclosed on Monday that an Israeli drone was intercepted and downed over Lebanese airspace on Sunday night, following heightened tensions in the region.

In a statement released on Telegram, the IDF revealed that a surface-to-air missile targeted the drone, leading to its successful interception and landing within Lebanese territory.

Responding swiftly, Israeli fighter jets retaliated by striking the site from which the missile was launched, indicating a decisive response to the incident.

The escalation in tensions between Israel and Lebanon unfolded when the Israeli army reported the firing of two shells towards the village of Rosh Hanikra in northern Israel along the Mediterranean coast.

In response to this aggression, the Israeli Army targeted the locations believed to be the source of the shells. Additionally, fighter jets conducted strikes on suspected terror infrastructure northeast of Nabatieh.

Recent incidents add to a series of confrontations along the Lebanon-Israel border, which have intensified since the outbreak of the Gaza conflict in October, resulting in casualties and injuries on both sides.

Amidst the rising tensions, both Hezbollah, an Iran-backed Lebanese Shiite militia, and the military wing of the Palestinian militant organization Hamas have claimed responsibility for attacks on Israel, exacerbating the volatile situation in the region.
