Former President Trump has made special demands from the judge presiding over his hush money payments case, insisting that a gag order preventing him from publicly discussing witnesses be removed.
Trump argued that the gag order violated his constitutional rights, preventing him from defending himself against what he called “lies” in the media during his trial.
Addressing reporters before entering the Manhattan courthouse on Friday, Trump emphasized his frustration with the gag order, stating, “People are allowed to speak about me, and I have a gag order just to show you how much more unfair it is.”
Judge Juan Merchan imposed the gag order last month, citing Trump’s prior extrajudicial statements, which he deemed posed a risk to the administration of justice.
Under the gag order, Trump is prohibited from making public statements about witnesses, their potential participation, counsel in the case, or any prospective or chosen juror.
