The Lagos State Police Rapid Response Squad (RRS) has apprehended a driver for allegedly cramming 15 children into a Volkswagen Passat car.
According to Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s spokesperson, the incident occurred on the Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge around 8 pm on Sunday. Concerned citizens reported the overcrowded vehicle to the police.
Upon intervention, the police discovered that the driver, who was contracted to transport the children to a beach, had locked four children in the car trunk, while 11 others were squeezed together inside the car.
Preliminary investigations revealed that one child had collapsed earlier in the day due to similar transportation conditions but recovered after receiving medical attention.
The children were safely released to their parents, and the suspects will face charges in court.
Lagos Police Commissioner Adegoke Fayoade commended residents for promptly reporting suspicious activities to the authorities, emphasizing the importance of community vigilance in maintaining safety.
