NAFDAC conducted a raid on Thursday at Sahad stores, a popular supermarket in Abuja, seizing counterfeit products worth N50 million. Additionally, H-Medix in Wuse 2 and Gwarinpa, 3rd Avenue, and Utako market were also raided by the agency.

Counterfeit cosmetics were discovered and confiscated at H-Medix, while fake drugs were seized at the Utako market. Embugushiki-Musa Godiya, NAFDAC’s Head of Investigation and Enforcement/Federal Taskforce, FCT, revealed that the raids were part of a three-day operation based on intelligence gathered from concerned citizens.

The seized counterfeit products included purported NIVEA cream and other cosmetics, along with Jik bleach, Harpic toilet cleaner, and Airwick room freshener. These products, despite being substandard, were priced higher than approved ones, raising concerns of criminal activity.

Godiya emphasized the health risks associated with counterfeit products, urging perpetrators to cease such acts. NAFDAC has a zero-tolerance policy towards compromised standards and will apprehend those involved in the illegal trade.

Citizens were urged to scrutinize products for NAFDAC registration numbers to ensure their safety when making purchases.
