The South Korean government, through its development agency, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), is set to pioneer the creation of six model smart schools in Nigeria.
Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, the Head of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), unveiled this initiative during a meeting in Abuja with the Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, Kim Pan-Kyu, held at the UBEC Digital Resource Centre.
Ambassador Kim Pan-Kyu’s visit to the UBEC Digital Resource Centre aimed to assess the facilities designated for training teachers in smart education methods. During his visit, the envoy engaged with Korean experts who are in Nigeria to conduct training sessions for Nigerian teachers and head teachers on the operation of smart schools, alongside intensive content development training.
Expressing gratitude to the Korean government and people for their significant support, Dr. Bobboyi highlighted the progress made in Nigeria’s smart school initiative. Currently, 14 out of the planned 37 smart schools have been established, with optimism expressed for the launch of the remaining schools in due course.
