The Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa A Nigeria (EYN), a Christian denomination in North East Nigeria, has decried the current state of Nigeria’s economy, describing it as the worst in the country’s history.
Speaking at the Church’s General Council in Adamawa State, President Rev. Joel Billi urged President Bola Tinubu, who campaigned on a promise of “Renewed Hope,” to take decisive action to address the economic challenges.
Billi expressed concern over the worsening poverty index and highlighted factors contributing to the economic downturn, including the unplanned removal of fuel subsidy, floating of the naira, unregulated foreign exchange regime, and institutional corruption.
He questioned the government’s strategy to raise workers’ income, raising concerns about how other employers like the church could afford to match such wage increases.
The EYN’s call for economic revival underscores the urgency for tangible interventions to improve the economic well-being of Nigerians, particularly in the face of escalating challenges.
