Abdulwahab Muhammed, the legal representative of Yahaya Bello, former governor of Kogi State, asserted that his client was present in Kogi State when operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) raided his residence in Abuja.
Muhammed made this declaration during a session at the Federal High Court in Abuja, held for the alleged money laundering case involving Alli Bello, chief of staff to Usman Ododo, the governor of Kogi, Yahaya Bello, and one Daudu Suleiman.
Despite being named in the case, Yahaya Bello was notably absent from the courtroom.
Muhammed clarified that Bello remained in Kogi State, awaiting the judgment of a local high court that had issued an injunction preventing the EFCC from apprehending him. It was during this period that news of the raid on his Abuja residence reached him.
