The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has initiated a campaign to enforce price display and quantity compliance at supermarkets across Abuja, starting with 4U Supermarket in Wuse 2.
This move comes in response to consumer concerns regarding the rising costs of goods, despite the recent strengthening of the naira. The FCCPC highlighted significant price discrepancies and stressed consumers’ right to be informed about the prices of items they intend to purchase.
The commission expressed concern over the persistent increase in prices of goods and services despite the appreciation of the naira against the dollar. Adamu Abdullahi, the FCCPC’s acting Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, stated that such a situation is unacceptable and reiterated the commission’s commitment to protecting consumers from exploitation.
The initiative underscores the FCCPC’s proactive efforts to ensure fair pricing practices and transparency in the marketplace, ultimately benefiting consumers across Abuja.
