Former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, has issued a stern advisory to party leaders, urging them to curtail the actions of Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory minister, who he alleges is exploiting the PDP to maintain relevance within President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Secondus, through his media adviser Ike Abonyi, cautioned PDP leaders against being swayed by Wike’s maneuvers, stressing the need to assert the party’s collective strength over individual interests. He emphasized that Wike’s political influence is waning and urged PDP leaders to focus on revitalizing the party’s stature.
In a statement, Secondus emphasized the importance of unity among PDP leaders gathering for the party’s 98th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting. He urged them to prioritize efforts to rescue and restore the party’s prestige, warning against allowing Wike’s tactics to detract from the party’s objectives. Secondus accused Wike of attempting to fabricate internal crises within the party to bolster his own relevance, particularly in the eyes of President Tinubu.
Secondus criticized Wike’s alleged attempts to depict himself as engaged in a power struggle with prominent PDP figures like the party’s 2023 Presidential Candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. He suggested that Wike’s actions were driven by a desire to assert his influence within the PDP for his personal political interests, particularly within the All Progressives Congress (APC). Secondus urged PDP leaders to resist granting Wike undue significance, asserting that his political relevance is diminishing.
In his concluding remarks, Secondus called upon the party’s critical structures, including the NEC, Board of Trustees (BOT), National Caucus, Governors’ Forum, state chairmen, and National Assembly caucus, to unite against disruptive elements like Wike. He emphasized the need to isolate individuals seeking to sow discord within the party and impede its progress. Secondus urged PDP leaders to remain steadfast in their commitment to the party’s principles and refrain from elevating Wike’s status beyond what he deserves.
