Justice Binta Nyako of the Abuja Federal High Court has scheduled May 20 as the date to rule on an application seeking the transfer of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
The decision to fix the date for ruling came after arguments were heard on the application presented before the court.
Kanu’s lead counsel, Alloy Ejimakor, emphasized that transferring Kanu from DSS custody is crucial to ensuring an expedited hearing process, citing concerns that his continued detention could impede the court’s directive for swift proceedings.
Ejimakor proposed alternatives such as house arrest or similar custodial arrangements, highlighting past instances where such measures were implemented for other detainees like Sambo Dasuki and El-ZakZaky.
However, the prosecutor, Adegboyega Awolomo (SAN), countered the application, urging the court to dismiss it outright.
