Son’s Alleged Killing of Mother Sparks Confusion in Akwa Ibom Community

In Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, confusion has gripped the community following the killing of a 70-year-old woman, Mma-Offiong James Peter, by her son, Inyangake James Peter. The incident has shaken the local residents, leaving them bewildered by the tragic event.

The suspect, Inyangake James Peter, was apprehended by the police on April 4, 2024, around 9:00 am. He reportedly confessed to the heinous act, stating that he acted based on a persistent voice urging him to commit the crime. The motive behind the son’s actions has left many baffled and seeking answers.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Odiko Macdon, disclosed the incident in a statement issued yesterday. According to Macdon, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command arrested Inyangake James Peter, aged 40, for the gruesome murder of his biological mother, Mma-Offiong James Peter, aged about 70 years old.

The tragic event occurred at Ikpe Annang Village in Etim Ekpo LGA. The suspect’s confession and the circumstances surrounding the murder have raised concerns and prompted further investigation by the authorities.

In his confession during interrogation, the suspect claimed that he heard a voice repeatedly instructing him to “kill her.” He admitted to succumbing to these disturbing directives, leading to the fatal outcome. As the investigation unfolds, the police have transferred the suspect to the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for thorough and discreet investigation.

The shocking nature of the incident has sent shockwaves through the local community and beyond. The tragic loss of Mma-Offiong James Peter has left family members, neighbors, and authorities grappling with the unsettling circumstances surrounding her untimely demise.
