The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has pledged to provide National Identification Numbers (NINs) to all Nigerians within the next two years. Mr. Kayode Adegoke, Head of Corporate Communications, announced this commitment during an X Space event focused on educating Nigerians about the NIMC Self-Service Modification platform.

As of December 2023, 104.16 million NINs had been issued, but Adegoke disclosed that over 105 million NINs have now been issued. With Nigeria’s population exceeding 200 million, Adegoke assured citizens that the target enrollment would be achieved within the set timeframe.

Emphasizing that NIN enrollment is ongoing, Adegoke encouraged Nigerians to use the self-service modification portal to make corrections to their data conveniently, without needing to visit NIMC offices.

Introduced as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the self-service modification portal allows users to update details from their homes or offices. Adegoke noted that modifications are now processed within 24-48 hours, a significant improvement in efficiency.

Responding to inquiries, Adegoke clarified the distinction between the self-service portal and the NIMC mobile app, with the former focusing solely on data modification. Participants suggested integrating data modification into the mobile app to enhance user experience.
