An aspirant vying for the governorship seat under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Jimi Odimayo, has cautioned the party against selecting a candidate incapable of serving two consecutive terms spanning eight years in the upcoming gubernatorial election.

Odimayo, who currently chairs the House of Representatives Committee on Population, emphasized the strong desire of the southern senatorial district for a governor who would effectively represent their interests from February 24, 2025, and ideally serve two terms.

During his official declaration at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Akure, Odimayo urged the party’s national leadership to exercise prudence in candidate selection to avoid fielding an inadequate candidate.

He stressed the importance of adhering to the constitutional provision of serving two terms, stating that any aspirant unable to fulfill this requirement should reconsider their ambition in favor of Ondo South Senatorial District’s best interests.

Odimayo warned against the repercussions of nominating a candidate who falls short of the eight-year tenure expectation, highlighting potential electoral challenges and opposition scrutiny. He urged party leaders to prioritize the southern region’s aspirations and ensure the APC’s dominance in Ondo State politics remains unchallenged.

Emphasizing the significance of the southern senatorial district’s turn in governance, Odimayo affirmed the party’s responsibility to capitalize on this opportunity. He cautioned against complacency and urged vigilance against political adversaries’ tactics.
