The kingmakers of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, have appointed High Chief Owolabi Akinloye Olakulehin, the current Balogun of Ibadanland, as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland.
This decision, made by the Olubadan-in-Council and ratified at a meeting held at Mapo Hall, signifies a pivotal moment in the history of Ibadan’s traditional leadership. The meeting, which commenced around 11:00 am and concluded shortly after 12:00 pm, was attended by key stakeholders.
The appointment of Olakulehin follows the recent passing of the 42nd Olubadan, Oba Mahood Olalekan Balogun, creating a vacancy in the revered Olubadan stool. During the meeting, Olakulehin’s nomination was put forward by the Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, High Chief Lateef Adebimpe, and unanimously ratified by all present members.
Chaired by the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, former governor of Oyo State, High Chief Rasidi Ladoja, the meeting saw the participation of prominent figures in the Olubadan-in-Council. Notably, the High Chiefs will forward Olakulehin’s name to the state governor, Seyi Makinde, for final endorsement.
This appointment marks a significant milestone in the rich heritage and tradition of Ibadan, as it paves the way for a new era under the leadership of the 43rd Olubadan.
