Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reiterated the government’s commitment to demolishing buildings that fail integrity tests. This announcement comes after 14 buildings collapsed near the Dosunmu Market, where two buildings had previously caught fire.

Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed his concern over the conversion of residential apartments into warehouses, stating that more buildings are at risk of collapse. He emphasized the need for preventive measures to avoid such disasters.

The governor condemned the gross carelessness that led to the recent fire incidents and highlighted the government’s determination to enforce construction regulations strictly. He announced the indefinite closure of Dosunmu Market while assuring assistance to affected traders.

Sanwo-Olu emphasized the government’s stance on prioritizing safety and environmental protection, promising support to those affected by the fire. He concluded by stressing the importance of investing resources in preventive measures rather than addressing avoidable accidents after they occur.
