The legal community mourns the loss of retired Justice Ahmad Olanrewaju Belgore, who passed away on Tuesday night, as announced by Kamaldeen Gambari, Esq., chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) in Ilorin, Kwara State.
“Information reaching me now indicates that Hon. Justice Ahmad Olarewaju Belgore, PCJA (Rtd) is dead. May Allah forgive his shortcomings,” Gambari conveyed in a brief message shared across social media platforms.
Belgore concluded his distinguished career as a Justice of the Court of Appeal on April 18, 2023, upon reaching the retirement age of 70. Born on April 18, 1953, he pursued his legal education at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, where he obtained an LL.B (Hons.) with Specialization in Islamic Law from 1975 to 1978. Subsequently, he attended the Nigerian Law School, Victoria Island, Lagos, completing the Barrister-At-Law (BL) program during the 1978/79 session. He was enrolled at the Supreme Court of Nigeria as a Solicitor and Advocate in July 1979.
Throughout his illustrious career, Belgore held various esteemed positions within the legal sphere. He was appointed as a Notary Public in 1987 and served as a Judge of the High Court of Justice in Kwara State from August 1990 to 2006. Additionally, he served as a Resident High Court Judge in the Offa Judicial Division of Kwara State from August 1994 to September 1999. Belgore also notably served as the Chairman of the Special Miscellaneous Offences Tribunal in Abuja.
