Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has announced the release of 222 inmates from various correctional facilities across the state by settling their fines.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula-Mohammed, Governor Radda stated that this compassionate move aims to bring joy to the inmates during the Holy Month of Ramadan, allowing them to celebrate the Eid-el-Fitr festivities with their families.

The inmates who benefited from this initiative were those detained due to their inability to pay fines imposed on them by different courts of law.

According to Hajiya Fadila Muhammad-Dikko, the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the state, this gesture will significantly contribute to decongesting the custodial centers and provide relief to those incarcerated for minor and non-capital offenses.

The selection process for the beneficiaries involved thorough verification and recommendations to the state government for intervention in paying the fines holding them in the correctional facilities.

Governor Radda’s decision reflects the spirit of compassion and goodwill during the festive season, ensuring that individuals facing minor offenses are not unduly burdened and can reunite with their families during the Eid celebrations.
