Emeka Okpukpara, CEO of Nextier Power in Nigeria, is set to address the Invest in African Energy (IAE) forum in Paris this May. Nextier Power, a multi-competency firm specializing in solving complex development issues, particularly in the power sector, will focus on financing, servicing, and expanding Nigeria’s generation and distribution capacities, as well as deploying smart metering technologies.

As Africa faces a growing energy demand, requiring investments of up to $190 billion annually between 2026 and 2030 according to the International Energy Agency (IEA), Nigeria is undergoing significant reforms in its power sector. The Federal Government (FG) is implementing various initiatives to address issues such as the metering gap, financial liquidity, and rural electrification.

The recent directive from the FG instructing electricity distributors to increase power supply to 6,000-6,500 MW within six months underscores the urgency of these reforms. This move aims to eliminate power cuts and enhance power supply, reflecting Nigeria’s commitment to transforming its energy landscape.

The IAE 2024 forum, organized by Energy Capital & Power, serves as a platform to facilitate investment in African energy markets. Scheduled for May 14-15, 2024 in Paris, the event provides an opportunity for industry experts, project developers, investors, and policymakers to engage intensively. The forum aims to connect bankable energy projects with potential investors and stakeholders.

Nextier Power’s participation in the forum aligns with Nigeria’s focus on expanding its power sector and meeting its energy needs. The country aims to prioritize baseload power generation through coal- and gas-fired power plants, gradually transitioning to cleaner energy sources.
