The Ministry of Finance and TechnoServe Nigeria are in discussions to form a partnership aimed at strengthening food and nutrition security initiatives in Nigeria.

A recent visit by TechnoServe Nigeria’s team to the Ministry of Finance served as an opportunity to showcase the organization’s programs and impact, particularly within the Nigerian context. The focus was on identifying areas of mutual interest with the Ministry’s priorities, initiatives, and overall policy direction regarding food and nutrition security, with a particular emphasis on private sector involvement, which is of great interest to TechnoServe.

Ayodele Tella, senior program manager for Food Fortification, led the delegation from TechnoServe during the visit to Wale Edun, Minister of Finance. Tella provided an extensive overview of TechnoServe’s mission, past achievements, and established presence within Nigeria, highlighting their commitment to improving the lives and incomes of individuals in underserved areas across various value chains. She emphasized TechnoServe’s approach of assisting communities in building robust farms and businesses, ultimately providing business-oriented solutions to combat poverty.

Tobi Durotoye, TechnoServe’s deputy program director, shed light on the organization’s food fortification efforts through the Inspiring Good Nutrition Initiative Through Enterprise (IGNITE) program. He mentioned that this program, operating under the Millers for Nutrition coalition, aims to expand access to fortified foods by empowering millers of staple goods such as rice, wheat flour, and edible oil to play central roles in economic development.

Expressing gratitude for the visit, Minister Edun envisioned a fruitful partnership emerging from the interaction. He saw it as an opportunity for TechnoServe to gain valuable insights from the Ministry’s experience and acknowledged the importance of leveraging TechnoServe’s expertise in areas such as business development, food processing, and high-value agriculture.

Edun emphasized that this collaboration could address identified gaps and enable both entities to work together towards poverty alleviation and economic empowerment.

The potential collaboration between the Ministry of Finance and TechnoServe holds promise for advancing food security initiatives in Nigeria, leveraging expertise, resources, and innovative solutions to drive positive change in the agricultural sector and improve the lives of millions of Nigerians.
