The FIFA world rankings, updated on Thursday, saw Nigeria’s Super Eagles drop from 28th to 30th place globally.
In Africa, the Eagles hold the third position, trailing behind Morocco’s Atlas Lions and Senegal’s Teranga Lions.
Morocco leads the African rankings at 13th place globally, while Senegal follows closely at 17th.
Previously, in February, Nigeria made a significant leap of 14 places to secure the 28th spot, attributed to their performance in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations where they finished as runners-up.
However, South Africa’s Bafana Bafana, opponents of the Eagles in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, fell to 59th place, while Benin Republic, another opponent, climbed to 97th place.
Argentina, reigning World Cup champions, maintain the top spot, followed by France, Belgium, England, and Brazil.
The next FIFA rankings will be released on June 20, 2024.
