NiMet Predicts Thunderstorms and Sunshine Across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather forecast predicting a combination of thunderstorms and sunshine nationwide over the next three days.

According to NiMet’s weather outlook released in Abuja, the northern region is expected to experience sunny conditions throughout Friday, with isolated thunderstorms anticipated over parts of Kebbi, Zamfara, and Kaduna states during the afternoon and evening periods. The North Central region will see sunny skies with few cloud patches in the morning, followed by isolated thunderstorms over parts of Niger, the Federal Capital Territory, Kogi, and Kwara states later in the day.

In the southern region, a mix of cloudy skies and sunshine is forecasted, with more cloud build-up expected over coastal areas. Isolated thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Lagos, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom states during the morning, extending to other southern states such as Delta, Rivers, and Bayelsa later in the day.

On Saturday, sunny skies with few cloud patches are expected over parts of the North West and North East in the morning, followed by isolated thunderstorms over certain areas. The North Central region will experience similar weather patterns, with sunny conditions in the morning and isolated thunderstorms later in the day. In the southern region, cloudy skies with spells of sunshine are anticipated, with isolated thunderstorms expected over various states throughout the day.

Sunday’s forecast includes sunny skies over the northern region, with isolated thunderstorms predicted over parts of the North Central region in the morning and afternoon. The southern region will experience a mix of cloudy skies and sunshine, with isolated thunderstorms expected over several states as the day progresses.

NiMet has advised the public to take precautionary measures, especially in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur, as strong winds may precede the rains. Airline operators have also been urged to obtain updated weather reports from NiMet’s office for effective planning of their operations.
