The Kano State Government has initiated legal action against former governor Abdullahi Ganduje and seven others, including his wife Hafsat and son Umar, over allegations of financial misconduct. The charges, comprising eight counts, accuse them of various financial crimes, including receiving $200,000 from a contractor and misappropriating funds allocated for the purchase of face masks and hospital equipment.

The charge sheet, filed before a Kano High Court, asserts that the actions of the defendants violate the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Commission Commission Law 2008. Among the defendants are Abubakar Bawuro, Jibrilla Muhammad, Lamash Properties Limited, Safari Textiles Limited, and Lesaga General Enterprises.

The state government, led by Governor Abba Yusuf, alleges that Ganduje accepted a $210,000 kickback from individuals and entities involved in or seeking contracts with the Kano State Government, specifically for the remodeling of Kantin Kwari textile market.

Ganduje and his associates have vehemently denied these accusations, claiming they are politically motivated to tarnish his reputation.

The charges outlined in the document include official corruption, criminal conspiracy, and breach of trust. If convicted, Ganduje, who currently serves as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, could face significant legal consequences under Kano State laws governing such financial misconduct.
